There are days when the sheer volume of life’s demands feels loud enough to drown out the voice of God. We wake up with the best of intentions, deeply desiring to sit in quiet communion with the Lord before the rush of the day begins. Yet, all too often, our minds are already racing in a dozen different directions before our feet even hit the floor. The notifications light up, the family needs our attention, the schedule demands our energy, and suddenly that sacred space we meant to carve out is swallowed by the urgency of the moment. If you have been feeling disconnected lately—if you are carrying the weight of everyone else’s needs, struggling to quiet an overactive mind, or simply feeling spiritually dry—I want to invite you to lift your eyes from the earthly chaos and fix your gaze on a reality that changes absolutely everything.

The Comfort of the Seated King

At the very end of our Scriptures, the apostle John is invited through an open door into heaven, and the very first thing he sees is not a battle, not a crisis, and not a panicked council trying to figure out how to solve the world’s problems. The first thing he sees is a throne, and someone is seated on it. This is perhaps one of the most profoundly comforting truths we can anchor our souls to today: God is seated. He is not pacing the floors of heaven worrying about your tomorrow. He is not wringing His hands over the cultural shifts, the family dynamics that grieve your heart, or the overwhelming schedule you are trying to manage. He rests in His absolute, uncontested sovereignty.

When our daily lives feel unsettled, it is remarkably easy to believe the illusion that everything is spinning out of control. We look at our own lack of energy, our fragmented focus, and our unending to-do lists, and we feel the heavy burden of trying to hold it all together. But the vision of the throne room reminds us that we are not the ones keeping the universe—or our families—intact. There is a magnificent, emerald-like rainbow encircling the throne, reminding us of God’s eternal covenant and His unwavering faithfulness. Out from the throne come flashes of lightning and peals of thunder, a declaration of His majesty and righteous power. Before the throne is a sea of glass, crystal clear and perfectly calm. There are no turbulent waves of anxiety in His presence. When we intentionally align our hearts with this reality, the turbulence in our own minds begins to settle into that same glassy peace.

Laying Every Honor at His Feet

Surrounding the center throne are twenty-four elders, representing the whole of God’s people. They are clothed in white, seated, and wearing crowns of gold. Yet even these crowns—symbols of honor, accomplishment, authority, and reward—are not clutched tightly or treasured above the One who gave them. In a beautiful, continuous rhythm of worship, the elders fall down before the One seated on the throne and cast their crowns at His feet. This is an act of holy reverence, deep humility, and complete surrender.

There is something deeply freeing in this picture for us today. Anything in our lives that seems to represent status, recognition, achievement, influence, or responsibility belongs first to God. The roles we carry, the work we have done, the fruit we have seen, the authority we have been entrusted with, and even the rewards we have received are all meant to be laid before Him. When we place every honor at His feet, we remember that He alone is the source, the sustainer, and the One truly worthy of glory. We were never meant to define ourselves by what we carry or accomplish. The invitation of the throne room is to release it all in worship and rest in the goodness of the One to whom it all belongs.

Weeping Turns to Worship

As the heavenly vision continues, a crisis momentarily unfolds. A scroll is produced—a scroll holding the very purposes, judgments, and redemption of the earth—but no one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is found worthy to open it. John weeps bitterly. Have you ever felt that kind of weeping? The deep ache that comes when you look at a situation in your family, a health crisis, or a broken relationship, and you realize you absolutely cannot fix it? You cannot open the scroll. You cannot force the breakthrough.

But then comes the turning point of all history. An elder speaks: "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered." John looks, and what does he see? He doesn't see a ferocious, roaring beast. He sees a Lamb, looking as though it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne. Jesus Christ, through His ultimate sacrifice, has won the victory. Because He was willing to be the slain Lamb, He is perfectly worthy to take the scroll of your life, your family, and your future, and unfold it according to His divine wisdom.

If you are wrestling with fears about the future, or if you are tired of trying to figure out how to help the people you love when nothing seems to work, look to the Lamb. He holds your life in His scarred hands. You can trust Him with the chapters you cannot read and the outcomes you cannot control.

Quieting the Mind and Tuning the Heart

The theology of the throne room is incredibly beautiful, but how do we make it practical when we are sitting alone in our living room trying to read our Bible, and our ADHD mind is jumping from the laundry, to a work email, to a conversation we had three days ago? The reality is that we live in physical bodies that are often impacted by stress, fatigue, and the digital overload of our modern era. Partnering with God in our daily lives means we get to utilize tools that help quiet our physical senses so our spiritual ears can hear Him more clearly.

As a certified practitioner of the Aroma Freedom Technique, I have seen firsthand how utilizing the God-given power of scent can help interrupt cycles of overthinking and emotional overwhelm. The olfactory bulb in our brain is directly connected to the limbic system, the center of our emotions and memories. When we are feeling frazzled or disconnected, intentionally using Young Living essential oils during our prayer time can serve as a profound anchor, gently pulling our wandering minds back to the present presence of Christ.

When you sit down for your devotion, try placing a single drop of Frankincense essential oil in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together, cup them over your nose, and take three slow, deep breaths. Frankincense has a rich, grounding aroma that has been used for centuries to focus the mind during times of worship. As you breathe it in, visualize that glassy, calm sea before God's throne. Let the scent be a physical reminder to your nervous system that you are safe in the presence of the King.

If you are struggling with feeling inadequate or plagued by doubts about your faith or your calling, reach for the Believe essential oil blend. Apply it over your heart space. This beautiful blend of Idaho Grand Fir, Coriander, and Frankincense encourages feelings of strength and faith. As you inhale its steadying aroma, declare the truth of the throne room: "Lord, I believe You are seated, You are in control, and Your plans for me are good."

For those moments when you are carrying frustration, worry about your adult children, or the heavy burden of a busy schedule, the Release blend of oil can be incredibly supportive. Apply it over your liver area (the body's physical and emotional filter) as a tangible act of letting go. Pray through the act of casting your crowns. Tell the Lord, "I release my need to control this outcome. I release my frustration with my schedule. I surrender it all at Your feet, because You alone is the worthy Lamb."

Building a Rhythm, Not a Religion

When we talk about spending time with God, we often get bogged down in the mechanics of it. We feel guilty if we don't have a solid hour, or if we fall behind on our reading plans. We forget that the Lord desires our hearts far more than He demands a perfect track record. The worship happening in the throne room right now is unceasing. Day and night, they never stop saying, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!"

Because that worship is constant, you can step into it at any moment. If your morning gets entirely derailed by an unexpected crisis, you haven't missed your chance for the day. You can pause in your kitchen at noon, take a deep breath, and whisper, "Holy, holy, holy." You can join the chorus from your car line, your office desk, or your quiet living room late at night. Spiritual alignment isn't about rigid perfection; it’s about a continual returning. It is about building a sustainable, joyful rhythm where you constantly bring your attention back to the One who is your True Source.

As you cultivate this rhythm, give yourself immense grace. The enemy loves to use guilt to keep us away from the very presence that heals us. If you sit down to pray and find your mind wandering, simply bring it back without condemnation. Read the Word not just to check a box, but to listen for the heartbeat of the Father. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you fresh eyes to see the majesty of Jesus, the One who purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.
